Trump and Putin to Discuss Ukraine’s Territorial and Energy Assets in Upcoming Talks

President Donald Trump has announced plans to engage in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, focusing on strategies to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. A central aspect of these talks will be the negotiation over specific territorial regions and key energy infrastructures, including significant power plants.

Trump highlighted that the negotiations would address the delineation of national boundaries and the control of major energy facilities, stating, “We’ve been discussing with Ukraine land—pieces of land that would be kept and lost… There is a power plant involved. A very big power plant involved. Who is going to get the power plant?”

While the specific power plant was not identified, it is widely speculated that the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, Europe’s largest nuclear facility currently under Russian control, is the subject of these discussions.

The upcoming talks are part of a broader initiative led by President Trump to broker a ceasefire and establish a lasting peace in the region. This initiative has raised concerns among European allies, who are wary of the potential implications of ceding Ukrainian territory and critical infrastructure to Russian control.

These negotiations follow a recent 90-minute phone call between Trump and Putin, during which both leaders expressed optimism about reaching a resolution. The call concluded with mutual invitations to visit each other’s countries, signaling a potential thaw in U.S.-Russia relations.

As the international community closely monitors these developments, the outcomes of the Trump-Putin discussions could have significant ramifications for Ukraine’s sovereignty, regional stability, and the global geopolitical landscape.
